Recipes for Chew-sy Pets

Remember these pet snacks are meant to be an occasional treat, not a mainstay of
the diet! They do contain calories and too many may contribute to an overweight
pet.
SPECIAL DAY DOG TREATS
1 jar baby food meat (any flavor)
7 T. wheat germ
4 T. nonfat powdered milk
Combine all ingredients. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Flatten slightly with fork. Bake in 350 degree oven until lightly browned.
GRRRRT DOGGIE CRISPIES
2 cups rye flour
¼ cup white flour
½ cup cornmeal
6 T. oil
2/3 cup warm water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine rye and white flour with cornmeal. In
mixing bowl, combine oil and warm water. Add dry ingredients. Mix well and shape
into a ball. Pat or roll out dough to ¼-1/2 inch thickness on cookie sheets,
sprayed with nonstick spray. Cut with dog biscuit cutter and remove scraps. Pat
out scraps and cut with cutters. Bake for 35-35 minutes. Cool on racks.
Yield 16-32 crispies
PENNY’S SPECIAL DOGGIE BISCUITS
To vary flavor and texture, add 1 cup pureed cooked green vegetables, ½ cup
pureed cooked chicken livers, or 6 T. rye or whole wheat kernels when the egg is
added.
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
½ cup powdered dry milk
½ t. salt
¼ t. garlic powder
6 T. margarine or meat drippings
1 egg, beaten
1 t. brown sugar
½ cup ice water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, dry milk, salt, and sugar. Cut in
margarine or drippings until mixture resembles cornmeal. Mix in egg and enough
water so mixture forms a ball. Pat or roll out dough on a lightly oiled or
sprayed cookie sheet. Cut with doggie biscuit cutter and remove scraps. Re-roll
scraps and cut out. Bake for 2-30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire
rack.
Yield 3-4 dozen.
